Feed Legislation

GMP certification

The introduction of a Code of Good Practice or GMP started already in 1992 in The Netherlands. After GMP certification became obligatory, Tessenderlo Group was the first Feed Phosphate producer to apply for certification according the Dutch GMP-system. Nowadays certification of our Belgium and Italian plant is according the Belgium OVOCOM system, and to the PDV system for our plant in The Netherlands.

These codes of Good Practice do include HACCP principles. The implementation of HACCP consists of 12 steps, which include the listing of possible hazards associated with each production step. After analysing, the listed hazard measurements to control identified hazards are considered and implemented. Ultimately, this system will guarantee complete feed safety.

Feed Hygiene Regulation

The objective of the European Parliament and Council regulation 183/2005 laying down requirements for feed hygiene is to ensure feed safety at all stages that may have an impact on feed and food safety. Key features of this Feed Hygiene Regulation are improved traceability throughout the feed/food chain, the implementation of HACCP (Hazard Analysis and critical Control Points) systems by feed business operators and the registration of all feed businesses.

The development of guides of good practices for the production of feed and feed materials at national or EU level is foreseen under the feed Hygiene regulation. Some countries or sectors already have such Codes of Good Practices installed.

Traceability

The other key-principle of the Feed hygiene regulation is traceability. With Aliphos, traceability starts with the control of the incoming raw materials to guarantee end product quality and end product safety. During production processes and products are closely monitored according a quality system in place. End products are controlled by means of sampling outgoing products and analysing same samples.
All deliveries, either in bulk, big bags or small bags, receive a lot number. This lot number, that includes product identification, date of production and retest date, is entered in our administrative system and coupled to customer numbers. This enables Tessenderlo Group to trace feed phosphates back to the used raw materials but at the same time it also enables us to trace products of the same lot to the customers.
